Out storms now a days are 6 to 12 hours That one two full days I will never forget Storm Field coming on at 630PM and declaring the storm over. The backlash was yet to come. The backlash was incredible from 9PM till I went to bed at Midnight and it continued till the early morning. The winds were 2nd to the Boxing Day Blizzard. Just an incredible storm.
August 13, 20223 yr I remember noaa weather radio nailing the Feb 1978 blizzard...they did not do well with the January blizzard though...The January 19-20th storm was the first big storm since Feb 69 and it was bigger than the Feb storm in some places...

Part of the issue with Feb 78 is no one trusted the forecast because of how bad they had been

We have a hard time doing that once now during the winter.
August 13, 20223 yr 8 years ago on Aug 12-13 2014 Islip recorded over 13 inches in just a few hours including 2 hours of 5 inch per hour rates and 1.08 in just 8 minutes. This was nearly twice as bad as what happened during The remains of Ida last year in NYC.

Blizzard of 83 It wasn’t a windy storm From what I can remember but it was a very convective storm with the most thunder and lightning I have ever experienced in a snowstorm. It beat 1/26-27 2011 easily. It still remains the only time I saw cloud the ground lightning in the snowstorm

Would love to see sounding etc Want to know why so convective. Everyone talks about that who experienced it

Everyone talks about that who experienced it That is one storm that I wish the younger members of this board were able to experience fully. Everything about it was unique given the fact the way the wall of snow came in heavy right from the start none of this few flakes to flurries to light snow to moderate snow crap. BOOM!! It came in like a snow squall and just stayed heavy till 7 AM the next morning and just like that the snow quit. There were Lulls in the intensity And the heaviest snow did come with the thunderstorms but the snow was always heavy it was never moderate or light. I remember Elliot Abrams of AccuWeather talking about gravity waves and I believe that is what was responsible for the thunderstorms.
