Blast from the past storm thread

That is one storm that I wish the younger members of this board were able to experience fully. Everything about it was unique given the fact the way the wall  of snow came in heavy right from the start none of this few flakes to flurries to light snow to moderate snow crap. BOOM!! It came in like a snow squall and just stayed heavy till 7 AM the next morning and just like that the snow quit. There were Lulls in the intensity And the heaviest snow did come with the thunderstorms but the snow was always heavy it was never moderate or light.

I remember Elliot Abrams of AccuWeather talking about gravity waves and I believe that is what was responsible for the thunderstorms.

I think 12/30/00 came in like that, but most of us were not awake to see it.

It did come in like a wall. But 83 really is one storm I wish we had a radar for.

December 24-25 2002

The storm started out as rain on Chrismtas Eve and kept on raining during the morning on Christmas. Temps remained in the low 40s.

During the afternoon, the temps started to drop into the 30s and the rain started to mix with snow and then changed to wind driven snow.

I ended up with 5 inches.

What was fascinating was that I wasn't supposed to get more than an inch of snow. The storm bombed out earlier than expected .

Storm dry slotted southern jersey and shut off too easily to the north. It wasn't an area wide crusher. And was 45 degrees next day. That never excites me

18 inches of snow here while it rained in Boston

Early in the morning , the radar was cut in half. It was snowing here while raining in Central LI. I had 4 Inches in the morning. The snow turned to showers in the after noon and then changed back to heavy snow at night .

Best time ever was the 12z GFS run on Christmas eve 2010

The storm came back and we ended getting 28 in Colts Neck on the 26th.

So many - but the way it came back was epic

Remember the initialization errors that was stated in the discussion.

Another red flag was that the 12z eps was much further west than the op run. All hell broke loose that night when all the models showed a huge hit.

With the erratic behavior the models display day in and day out I don't think it's that unlikely.
