January 29, 20232 yr Most ever snow to fall in my area. Probably won't see anything like it anytime soon but would be awesome to experience a 1993 or 1950 storm in my lifetime. Maybe once the asteroid hits. Lol and here's a perfect representation of my area for big snows. So make sure you guys appreciate them.

We get the occasional 8-12 every 3 years or so but the true big daddies are rare. We live and die by the 3-6 type events or your nickel and dime variety. Even the big daddies aren't your classic blizzard. 2010 had the snowfall 21inches but no wind. We can get the heavy snow like 1994, almost 20 inches with 2-4 inch rates but the wind is the hardest thing to get. I'd say 1993 and 1950 were our last true blizzards.

January 29, 20232 yr I remember when I was in the sixth grade around this time in 1961...it was a Sunday and we were in the grips of a 16 day cold wave with 8-12" of snow on the ground...The weather forecast had a storm for Thursday...the cold wave climaxed on Feb 2nd at -2 degrees...the storm did come but started on Friday evening...18-24" later Brooklyn had 28" of snow on the ground and the temperature finally went above freezing...after that there was a slow melting for a week before a long thaw set in...
January 29, 20232 yr I posted this on my Facebook back in 2014 but I always find it hilarious about how the south shuts down at anything over an inch. 3 inches of snow
February 2, 20232 yr 45 years ago in Feb 1978 the Great Meteorologist Norm MacDonald talked of a Historic Blizzard that kids like me would be telling our grandkids about. he actually is the only one that predicted the front half of the storm would be the most impressive out over Long Island, but the backlash would be the most impressive part of the storm for NYC and that’s exactly what happened. In terms of wind and snow COMBINED my list is like this. 1. Boxing Day 2010 2.Jan 7-8 1996 3. Feb 6 1978

He does a good job of explaining more sophisticated meteorology such as Rossby Waves, sub-tropical jet, etc, while still keeping the video entertaining for those with just a casual interest. That arctic blast in Jan 77 that gave Tampa an inch of snow, Miami a trace & a 32 degree temp, and the Bahamas a wintry mix is absolutely insane.

I managed to squeeze our like an inch but LI got a nice event out that. I was furious that of course it had just stopped advancing west basically right over me. Memories of Juno were still fresh in my head.
February 8, 20232 yr I wish this whole board could experience a storm like this. Between 7PM-1AM the amount of Lightning and Thunder was just incredible. Some of you talk about the lightning of Jan 26-27 2011. That storm was NOTHING compared to Feb 1983. This remains the only time I ever saw CTG lightning in a snowstorm. clouds with moderate sunshine at 1230PM. 1245PM a dark wall of clouds like a Thunderstorm approached from the South. Shortly after 1PM the snow came in like a snow squall and Just increased in intensity throughout the afternoon. 24 inches by Saturday morning by me in Richmond Hill NY in Queens County.
February 9, 20232 yr 10 yr anniversary of "Nemo" today-much of CT saw 30-40 inches of snow-the king locally as far as accums go with BDR 30 inches

That was a great storm. As usual there was debate on how far north heavy snow would get but by that Friday morning Craig Allen on CBS880 was all in! Flurries just starting at end of my HS day around 1:45 in Paramus. Snow got heavy quickly during the bus ride home. The steady strong winds, and lightning/ thunder were incredible late evening into the night. Think this was the storm Allentown reported 5" in 1 hr. Our cars were just humps of snow in the driveway by morning completely buried!

It wasn’t until 11:00 am that Joel Myers on 1010 wins touted 5-9 inches for NYC, which was of course changed as the day progressed. great storm
February 16, 20232 yr twenty years ago was the Presidents Day storm 2...back in 1958 the blizzard in NYC was ending...1996 had 10" of snow on this date...that evening I was taping the songs from 2/16/1958 from CBS FM radio...As I was recording the songs from 58, 1996 set the record snow for the date breaking the record set in 1958...
