30 years ago today February 8, 1994 light snow began falling at 8 AM. By 10 AM the snow rates were 3 inches per temperatures dropped into the teens and there was cloud toground lightning. Traffic everywhere came to a standstill as windshield wipers on cars broke from the ice that accumulated on the car windows and the roads were absolutely terrible. I finished with 11 inches of snow and then later on we got another big snowstorm in February 11 which dropped another 11 inches by me. 
 

This was the biggest frozen precipitation event with no plain rain since February 11, 1983 blizzard.

one this date in 1974 I woke up to a heavy snow warning that was not in the forecast the previous evening...6" fell...Brooklyn received 9" of snow in 1994 which started on this date and ended on the 9th...some freezing mix also...

my video...can't believe how fast the last 30 years went...in 1963 it was -2 degrees on this date as I walked to school with no hat...frozen snot on my nose...the record snowfall for the date was in 1870...

I was looking at past radars and snow videos I took and I forgot what an epic band January 4th 2018 had. 

 

Look at these NAM maps for Jan 4th 2018 only 36 hours out. People would have a meltdown (myself included) if we saw this now:

Is there some type of pattern with +AO in March or does a +AO have the same effects generally on our snowstorms no matter what winter month it is?

I think the does not have the same effect it has in Dec to Feb...Some March storms had a very neg ao...

1981 had a -4.3sd...ao

1984 had a -2.3sd...ao

1960 had a -1.2sd...ao

2009 had a -2.1sd...ao

1958 had a -2.3sd...ao

March 21 2018. My first winter living in Suffolk County and this was a 4 inch per hour band. Biggest March snowstorm in my life, I ended up with 18 inches from this.
