January 21, 2025Jan 21 Would love a repeat of March 2018, 4-5 storms with heavy wet snow for most of them

When it stays cold you get use to it unless you're just soft. I'm 72 and I'll take this winter anytime over the last 2. In your experience , what is the best snowstorm have you seen in your life?

Finished with over 4ft. #1: 1996 (the king) #2: 1993 (March Superstorm, I mean how can you not put in the top 3, my backyard had like 8 inches of snow that I could ice skate on the next morning and that crazy wind overnight!) #3: 1/26/11-1/27/11 Blizzard (I felt that it was just more interesting to me than Boxing Day exactly 1 month earlier) #4: Boxing Day Blizzard 2010 #5: 12/30/2000 2nd most snow totals I actually remember witnessing in my hometown of Howell, NJ just behind 1996. For my Howell, NJ experiences growing up, 1996, 1993 and 12/30/00 are my top 3 in that order. Special Mention January 21-23 1987. The only snowstorm in my hometown of Howell, NJ that I can actually remember taking place when I was under 10 years old so I could really enjoy a true childhood dream snowstorm. Also 2 days later the NY Giants won their 1st ever Super Bowl. One of the best week's ever in my childhood

January 23, 2025Jan 23 Feb 78 and Jan 96 were phenomenal storms but Feb 83 was the only storm in my lifetime that had S+ and S++ the entire duration of the storm. There were no lulls at all And you have to throw in some thunder snow that Cantore would have been proud of. Ended with 23” in 14 hours. My brother in Freehold had 5” before LI saw a flake. The storm crawled in and crawled out thanks to a 1040 High anchored right in the sweet spot. I remember that the strength of the high was supposed to suppress much of the heavy stuff to our south. Morning forecasts of 3-6 turned into 1-2ft in a matter of hours. It was just a great storm. I’m 67 and it gives me chills just thinking about it

I have never seen it go from sun shining through a thin overcast to a wall of thunderstorm like darkness to the south move and within 20 minutes it started snowing like a snow squall with and it just kept getting heavier and heavier and heavier. cars were trapped on all the highways and in the Lincoln, Holland and midtown tunnels as most cars were still only rear wheel drive back then. this is still the only storm where I could visibly see cloud to cloud to ground lightning. what made that storm even more sweet was the fact that January 1983 had a storm that was supposed to give us over a foot of snow and I ended up with an inch of slush. That was a terrible bust but February 83 made up for it in a big way.
January 23, 2025Jan 23 April 6, 1982 is another storm that will probably never happen again in our lifetime. To get dry pottery blowing drifting snow with blizzard conditions in the middle of the day and temperatures dropping through the mid 20s on April 6 was just incredible. That storm had more powdery snow than the majority of all of the storms I have seen in March for crying out loud.

Yes, we could definitely see Apr 6 amounts on Apr 6 again, but to get such a cold snow in April and teens the next morning in Manhattan is incredible. However, it DID happen once prior. March 22, 1967 had 9" of snow and dropped to 8 degrees the next morning. I'd argue that March 22 being 8 degrees is equivalent to being 16 on April 7.
