However, it DID happen once prior. March 22, 1967 had 9" of snow and dropped to 8 degrees the next morning. I'd argue that March 22 being 8 degrees is equivalent to being 16 on April 7. The law was actually 22 on April 7 but we made that storm so impressive was to have blizzard conditions in the middle of the day when the sun is at its highest angle and temperature is dropping through the mid 20s with blowing drifting snow. That is something that I’ll never forget. What made it even more impressive as the fact that between February and March 82 I think there was a combined amount of 0.02 inches of snow and spring was on its way stuff had already started the green things has started to bloom and to go from that to a blizzard was just so shocking.

There were no lulls at all And you have to throw in some thunder snow that Cantore would have been proud of. Ended with 23” in 14 hours. My brother in Freehold had 5” before LI saw a flake. The storm crawled in and crawled out thanks to a 1040 High anchored right in the sweet spot. I remember that the strength of the high was supposed to suppress much of the heavy stuff to our south. Morning forecasts of 3-6 turned into 1-2ft in a matter of hours. It was just a great storm. I’m 67 and it gives me chills just thinking about it I wonder if there are any radars of this storm, I have no idea when they started using weather radar for precip.

January 24, 2025Jan 24 Feb 3-4, 1961 is in my top three all time snowstorms...it started with 8-10" of snow on the ground...it ended with 24-28" on the ground...17-22" wet snow...the temp went above freezing for the first time in 17 days...The blizz of 96 and the blizz of Dec 1960 round out my top three...Feb 1969 and Feb 1978 would be 4 and 5 favorites...
January 24, 2025Jan 24 I was just watching clips of December 26 2010 Blizzard in NYC. I ended up with 25 inches.

It's not even close. The entire state of New Jersey was shutdown and over 2/3rds of the state had over 2 feet fo snow from Cape May to High Point. That hasn't happened before or since.

I had 30 inches of snow in SE Monmouth with the largest drifts I have ever seen as well. Most snow I have ever seen in my life.
January 24, 2025Jan 24 if you look at pictures from the blizzard of 1888 you can see it was the biggest snowstorm ever...it had to be under measured...

I will say that Boxing Day comes close. To this day I measured 26" at the low end the high end was 33". For sheer power, and I mean snow rates per hour, Boxing Day 2010 wins. Never seen it snow that hard from 7 pm to midnight. Lyndhurst NJ has 29" of snow at 2 am and parts of the Jersey Shore, Brick and Belmar had 33-36". My friend in Wall swears he measured 36".

For my area though, all the huge events we've had since 1996, I pretty much measured between 24-28". From a local perspective and not a statewide/regional one, they all were pretty much the same.

Here on the Palisades cliffs the drifting was so absurd on Boxing Day that I could not make heads or tails of anything. 1996 down in Howell while we still had insane drifting the winds were not as out of control and swirly as they are up on these cliffs so I could at least orient myself enough to really be sure what was 30 inches+ of snow depth and what was a drift.
