Outside of it, if you got 12" you were lucky. I live in SW suffolk county on Long Island and I got 11.8". Wind was the biggest story by far but outside of that, wasn't a big deal at all here. Definitely not even in the top 15 here for me. The wind actually kind of ruined the storm for me. The snow coming down was more like a heavy baby powder than nice looking dendrites. Plus I don't like drifts, I don't like how that creates bare spots. Plus I lost power. Luckily restored like 12 hours later but still.

Winds were sustained 50+ with a gust to 68MPH by me when I lived in Queens. When I went out walking in it I had to walk backwards because it’s facing it was impossible as the snow was just coming at you and hitting you with such force you couldn’t see anything. That was definitely the most severe wind I’ve ever seen in any snowstorm in my life. The best way to describe it it was like a derecho with snow.

January 28, 2025Jan 28 Technically Jan 2016 dropped almost 30 inches here so it was similar but 2011 felt different since there were already huge snowpiles everywhere from previous storms and already plenty of snow on the ground from previous systems.
