Blast from the past storm thread

Do you remember those forecast once snow change to rain and we get into that dry slot do you remember how the backlash was still supposed to get us in a major way? I even remember one of the guys at the weather channel said that for New York City that it’s far from over that we are going to get blizzard conditions overnight into the morning of the 14th that is going to be blowing and drifting snow on top of what already fell. I was so excited for that I was in my glory and then when I looked at the radar and just saw that backlash continuously eroding I just knew that it wasn’t going to happen.

that 10 inch pack of ice was impressive though. You were talking 2 1/2 inches of water in a 10 to 12 inch snowpack now just completely frozen solid by temperatures in the low to mid teens.  There was so many cars that was stuck and you couldn’t get them out. You had to jackhammer the ice out. The snowplow wakes were also solid ice so there were places that had 3 foot high walls of solid ice.

I was at my parents outside of Philly and I think we got a good 4-5 inches of backlash snow-never changed to rain there-just wind driven sleet and then a dry slot with temps in the mid 30's for awhile.    Roads were a disaster for days with all the ice

The biggest disappointment for that storm which a lot of people forgot was not the fact that it changed over to rain, that was supposed to happen and it did. But what really disappointed is the fact that we were supposed to get another 6 to 10 inches with the backlash which has we know now is virtually impossible with 99% of storms but back then I really thought it was going to happen. Whatever snow there was with the backside just completely dried up by the time it hit New York City. I believe parts of Central Southern New Jersey got another 2-4 inches.

The only thing I got was a very heavy snow squall that didn’t even whiten the ground early that next morning before temperatures plummeted through the teens and turned all that wet snow into concrete.

SORRY  to rub it in Andrew but i got 7.2 inches from the backlash lol, got 10 inches during the day, then a sleety freezing drizzle from about 5 pm to 10 pm, then the back lash.

3/13/2010 we had one of the most powerful Noreasters this area has ever seen. 2 1/2 to 4 inches of rain. Winds of over 75 mph in some places and tremendous coastal flooding.

I was in Westchester County at the time on Central Park Avenue and those gust of wind were pushing the car. I then saw a huge tree fall across the road up ahead of me luckily it didn’t fall on any cars but those winds were howling. That was like a minimal hurricane. It was a very underrated storm I don’t know why people forget about it.

Immense wind damage here from that one-widespread power outages-trees down, fences destroyed.

Unless it’s like Krakatoa, it won’t have any impact at all.

yup it was like a three day affair, first day heavy snow, then at night changed to freezing rain with temps struggling and got up to 32 the next morning and stayed around 34 all day, then the next day showers and drizzle and fog, temps inching up to 40

April 3 1982, 3 days before the Blizzard, a very strong cold front went through in the late afternoon and early evening and produced some of the most violent thunderstorms I have ever seen for the month of April. I had almost 2 inches of rain where I used to live in Richmond Hill. The cold there that came in behind the storms but eventually set the stage for the blizzard.

when I was in the second grade in 1957 it snowed 2-6" on this date in the city before changing to rain...I remember looking out my school window while it was coming down...

April 6th, 1982...NYC gets 9.6"...Newark a foot...temps stay below freezing the next day...unbelievable benchmark winter storm and cold wave...
