It kind of cycles. One or two decades with great storms, then one or two with only one or two.

image.thumb.jpeg.bdf5b3a792f1deecf4067cd4010af149.jpegSept 16 2010. It’s the worst severe weather event of my lifetime. Macroburst with winds of over 125MPH. What an absolute frightening storm. Well I was living in a Rego Park Queens my big living room window bent inward to where I thought it was going to explode and there were windows that did explode just an incredibly violent storm. It took down more trees than I have ever seen in my life before. There was a tornado flushing in Bayside Queens. I would never forget that storm and it turned me off to severe weather after that.

This guy lived a couple of blocks north of me and he missed the most intense part of the storm where his house is. I used to talk to him and he said we will never see anything like that again in our lifetime. This guy goes out chasing hurricanes and tornadoes and he told me that the type of storm we had that day or something that he never thought would happen in the NYC area.

Remember it well, I was on the van wyk  pkwy when a tree limb few right by me as I was heading to jfk airport to get my wife who was in a holding pattern until the tornado past, very scary

Floyd happened on this date in 1999...5" of rain in Central Park...

There was a woman who was killed when the tree fell on her car on the Grand Central Parkway right by Drew Avenue and that’s where the worst of the winds were there was a whole area where although it wasn’t quite a tornado yet we were in that signature.

Massive PRE with that one.   Some places in NC had upwards of 20 inches of rain

Floyd had massive flooding in my area.  Bound Brook NJ was rocked.

The Flood and Its Impact
  • Record-Breaking Rainfall:
As the remnants of Hurricane Floyd swept up the East Coast, they dropped torrential rain, with the Raritan River cresting at 42.13 feet in Bound Brook, far exceeding the 28-foot flood stage.

  • Widespread Damage:
The flooding caused significant damage throughout the town, with reports of over 10 feet of water in some homes, widespread destruction of businesses, and fires sparked by electrical short circuits.

  • Large-Scale Rescue Operations:
Hundreds of Bound Brook residents were rescued from second-story windows and rooftops by a large flotilla of responders, highlighting the severity of the situation.

  • National Attention:
The scale of the flooding in Bound Brook attracted international attention, showcasing the catastrophic effects of the storm on communities along the Raritan River.
