Oh yes, it was a pattern changer for sure, but I was talking about the physical evolution of the storm.

Sept 16 2010. It’s the worst severe weather event of my lifetime. Macroburst with winds of over 125MPH. What an absolute frightening storm. Well I was living in a Rego Park Queens my big living room window bent inward to where I thought it was going to explode and there were windows that did explode just an incredibly violent storm. It took down more trees than I have ever seen in my life before. There was a tornado flushing in Bayside Queens. I would never forget that storm and it turned me off to severe weather after that.

40 years ago today was hurricane Gloria. That storm turned out to be a big bus for New York City in the five boroughs the rain never got torrential it was moderate for several hours and the winds with nothing to write home about the one thing that was good though was the backlash the winds with 65 mph with that. But other than that there’s nothing to speak of. Long Island was a different story but even out there the hurricane still nothing like it could’ve been.

Love seeing pedophile state lose.

@uncle w @Analog1888 @Keith O38 years ago today, October 4, 1987, I had the earliest snowfall ever with massive damage due to leaves on the trees.  It all started with a warm October 3rd with temps in the upper 70s followed by a torrential thunderstorm which evolved into a steady rain in the evening and temps were falling through the 40s.  A storm was developing off the coast and the wind picked up, I heard howling winds around midnight but it was just cloudy, then I was awaken at 6 am to a steady cracking noise like someone shooting outside, I looked out my bedroom window as i could not believe it was snowing and like a whiteout and winds howling about 40 mph, i saw tree limbs broken on the ground. it snowed heavy up to around 9 am with temps hovering around 32 degrees.  I had flurries up to noon with temps staying at 32 degrees with a thick overcast.  I measured 6.2 inches of wet snow which started to drift! at around 1 pm I lost power for 2 days, it was a disaster area with roads blocked from fallen trees and limbs.  I called my brother in the catskills, Elka Park where is is over 2000 feet and he said he got 3 feet.  I lived in Putnam County in Carmel at the time.

By two days later, temps were in the 70s again and the snow vanished, however, the mass devastation of broken tree limbs and trees down was all over the place, and it I did not know that it snowed, I would have thought it was a major hurricane or tornadoes..

I am not sure how far south the snow got, my guess is probably not much, but wanted to share this

@uncle w, do you have the map for this? must look wild.

Thanks for reading and btw, the winter that followed was actually good 1987-88, we had coastals in mid november and DC got a foot of snow, while we had snow and sleet, one of the rare times it snows in October where the winter that followed was great.

Thanks for reading!

I know the snow didn't get as far south as Brooklyn where I lived at the time...the fall of 1987 had that storm in November too...it had two snowfalls just after new year's day...January was cold with above average snowfall...February was disappointing when a storm gave NYC 1" before changing to rain but inland got heavy snow...we got about 20" that winter in Brooklyn...

October 19, 1972, I was only 13 and there was a slate grey sky all day with temps in the mid 40s.  Around 7 pm, the wind picked up and a mix of sleet, rain, and light snowflakes started falling with a temp of 35 degrees.  By 11 pm, it was mostly snow with a temp of 30 and the ground was whitened. we had a steady wind blown light snow that ended around 8 am on October 20, 1972 with schools closed and temps in the mid 20s.   measured 2.5 inches. I lived in central westchester county Valhalla at the time.  After this I did not see another storm until sometime in January, while most storms passed by well south DC through NC.   I measured 9.8 inches for that winter, while NYC measured 2.8, I believe NYC got a trace on the Oct 19-20 storm.

You will see plenty this year, but it's FALL.  Enjoy the foliage and nice crisp days.  This year is evolving exactly as it should!
