He passed March 31 when I was 15. That one ice storm was epic. A decent amount of storms mixed that year.

There was a 20 inch difference in seasonal accumulations between JFK and LGA, 40 inches at JFK and 60 inches at LGA. The mix like was always setting up somewhere near the city and the freezing rain and sleet kept numbers down for more southern parts. Still a great winter for all though.

Yup, I had 54.5" that season. I don't remember which storm, but I remember it being 18 degrees and pouring freezing rain. The next morning it was like 3-4" of freezing rain and sleet/snow to clear.

I remember the news (I think ABC7) had a headline, "The Storm That Fizzled Out."

Thursday evening before they put out aheavy snow warning for 12 inches But then they dropped it but they still were predicting up to 10 inches of snow for New York City. No I'm at Friday morning actually came in quite heavy for about 20 minutes then it lightened up and it was just a light to moderate snow for the rest of the day and then eventually change to rain we did get almost 6 inches in Queens And it changed to rain pretty much was gone by the next day.
August 8, 20223 yr Author Still can't believe this happened but unfortunately was a bad omen for the rest of the winter

August 8, 20223 yr Author only problem with the Halloween storm was a miserable 600mb level wedge that killed snow growth at the height of the storm it kept snowing but just never recovered vs areas further West and NW did better
August 8, 20223 yr Author Outside of the 50 50 low the alignment of mid levels is 2nd on the list of ingredients for big snows. We really need that skew T saturated top to bottom the entire time

Newark n j reported 18” on 2/11 and an 18 inch snow depth… that was wrong… there was 9 “ on the ground before the second storm which was around 10”…not 18”…
