We are only 4 days out from this event - started a thread here on the potential end of week winter storm.

The NBM text ouput has 4.7 at EWR, so technically that's not a horrible call right now but it's stupid to call anything more than 60-72 hours out with numbers.

exactly-the general public will say we are getting 6 inches Friday and then things can/will change

Right, beyond 3 days out, I just like to use words to describe potential amounts, i.e. light, moderate, signifcant, major, etc.

@tmagan you like this kind of stuff: the recent high wind event is the closest thing I personally have ever seen to a coast to coast wind event.

California, in the Sierras, had wind gusts to 90-100 MPH, much of the high plains had wind gusts from 60-90 MPH, and even all the way east to Montauk had a gust to 84 MPH.

The GFS has a full blown winter pattern to open Jan.

they hype, but actually are very accurate believe it or not with their predictions, they must have a secret computer they use that nobody knows about lol

Haven't seen the 84 mph wind gust in Montauk, maybe your thinking about the 81 mph wind gust in Block Island. I spent all weekend retrieving all of the branches downed in the storm. Haven't seen this many since 'Isaias.' In fact the 81 mph Block Island gust was pretty much higher than all of the highest wind gusts in 'Sandy.'

According to my neighs anomometer there was a gust to 65 here. The amazing thing is is that those guys came out of nowhere because it was absolutely nothing and then before 10 o’clock like you said boom it came in so suddenly and just like that it died down to this as quickly until later on when we had the CAA. Oh yes it definitely was one of the great wind vents you will ever see from Coast to Coast. It was a very dynamic system.

And then you add in the severe thunderstorms from that upper level trough that came in well behind the front.

Eatons Neck had a gust to 92 I believe in Sandy. JFK airport in Queens had a gust to 85.

Eatons Neck is too high, the tower is like 90 feet and it is supposed to be 30 feet.
