Even worse march and April snow pad the stats for bad winters and make them look decent.March 2018 had 4 big events in Suffolk county. One of them was the heaviest snow I’ve ever seen. ISP airport recorded 5-6” of snow in an hour

We actually have done well maximizing precip type as wintry since overall it’s been rather dry. Several days with lows below zero too. I think that might make it 3 winters in a row. That rarely happens here, even during the colder years of yore.Call me crazy but cold and dry is not something I factor into grading winter season. We’ve had plenty of winters here with average temps and high snowfall. I’d grade that type of winter an A or B. This winter I’m grading it a C+. A few plowable events in December with one big event in January, with many misses. Just over 30” on the season for me. if we get another big one later this month or March I’ll jump up to a B or B+
February 10Feb 10 93 superstorm lasted for some time afterward like a week a believe. Even snowed a few inches a few days later.
February 10Feb 10 This winter was excellent because it was front loaded for a change. We had the storm on December 14 and then another one on Boxing Day where I am although I know people west of me got a lot of sleet. To see Christmas decorations in the snow both on the ground and falling with something that is so rare to experience here and I’m glad I got to see it twice. Send the New years day morning snow squall then of course the big storm.. it would be nice to see more snow but at this point, even if we don’t see anything this has been the best winter since 2020-21 and the coldest winter since 2014-15.

Lasted 1.5hrs here 1.6” new and followed up the next night with .6”.

Automatically that is a C in my book (average = C). The cold and duration of snowcover get it to a B for me. Another event or 2 to push me over 40" would be really nice, 9" more for that
February 11Feb 11 It's almost as hard to find parking today as it was two weeks ago. These are the most stubborn snow piles I've ever seen in my entire life

February 11Feb 11 I think this has been a good year for snow and cold...any winter with 25" of snow up to now is good...you have to compare it to other winters...If March has a snowstorm the rating goes up...this year is better than...I think it beats these 17 years since 1995-96...better than 17 of the last 30 years...its a little above the middle of the pack as of now and we have a month to go...last year...2023-24...2022-23...2021-22...2019-20...2018-19...2016-17...2015-16...2012-13...2011-12...2007-08...2006-07...2001-02...1999-001998-991997-981996-97
February 11Feb 11 B + for two great snowstorms and one good one. Plus the warned snow squall that over achieved adds weight. The extended snow cover with the seemingly ridiculous extended cold stretches with frozen ocean rivers and bays would normally slam dunk this as an A or A+ but with just average, c+ snowfall, but for the great quality of the snowfall forces an auto B for snow. The extended cold and snow cover adds the + . Need another good storm or two smaller ones to move the needle. Would like to see results for the $1000+ dollar gas bill this winter will accrue.
