Dog was loving it. Ok maybe I was more.

there have been la nina's seven of the last ten years...two el nino and one neutral...the last four snowy winters in that timeframe were la nina based...the last above normal snowfall for an el nino winter was in 2015-16 and that was from one huge storm...The last real snowy el nino winter was 2009-10...2014-15 was downgraded to a weak positive almost el nino winter which was snowy...

You can see how the strengthening wind profile aloft, as confirmed by the KOKX radar VWP wind profile has led to heavier rainfall over Long Island.

A little over 3" here. Most likely will finish in the 4-5" range.

28.2/28.0. Heavy snow.

Official NWS total was 4.2" as of 8 pm. They will finish at close to 5". Nearly warning criteria.

Why did they wait so long to put out a winter weather advisory? That’s what I don’t understand. You put it out to let people know that there will be accumulating snow and snow covered roads. I believe a lot of people with the national service. Don’t pay attention to the radar. I’m not a meteorologist. I don’t know the math part of it but I do know that when you know how to read radar as well as I do, you can see things developing ahead of time, and you could make a forecast off of that.

The signs were there. It did ramp up last minute but that is usually a sign of an overperformer. Need to adjust accordingly.

Closing in on 5" here. A little more left to go.

27.5/27.3.

I saw what was going on with the radar there and you could tell that it was developing to a nice area of snow. There was enough sufficient lift, and snow growth to see that you were going to get a nice little snowfall.

This is why nowcasting is so important.

Might reach warning criteria at this rate. Even if we dont get it from the main slug there's plenty of snow showers to maybe add on.

One of the things that I have noticed since December is the fact that the Clippers and the cold fronts have really over performed and have given a lot of areas from Pittsburgh on the east more snow than was previously forecast. Usually, it is the other way around as you get closer to the event, the precipitation diminishes, but for some reason it’s cold season it has been developing and outperforming expectations.

That rain is almost so heavy it looks like snow.

KDCA - 68 mph wind gust.

Impressive inversion on the 0Z Tuesday KOKX sounding with strong winds right off the surface.
