It’s in the air. It’s everywhere. It’s very bad and we desperately need heavy rain.

They don't use salt out here if it's under 15 degrees.

It is total snowfall, but most places have an inch or less before that anyway.

1.3 in Syosset & -1.7 in Muttontown this morning.

Not cold enough for you guys, I should have been between maybe 0 and 5 and you should have been closer to -5.

Like the sunny forecast from Upton when right now it’s completely cloudy with light snow falling

5 this morning here and I'm close to the bay...temps don't radiate in the city and now the boroughs like they used too...stronger heat island...

I was just telling someone that's exactly how the 33 and 34 degree forecasts could bust a degree or two too low and continue the below freezing streak.

All you need is a rogue cloud band to come off the lakes in the middle of the afternoon.

South of the Border in South Carolina never sausage a storm like this...

I was only 1 degree colder than Central Park's low and 3 degrees colder than LGA and I'm usually a solid 10 degrees colder on radiational cooling nights.

Add to that there's snow everywhere and it wasn't a UHI issue last night for many areas.

My mom and sister live in SC, near Charleston. They are expecting 3-6" today and going down to 17 tonight!

looking at the ao forecast I would look towards the 10th of February for a possible pattern breaking snowstorm...similar to Feb 61 and Feb 79 when milder air followed...this cold can't last for ever...

-7 here this AM, quickly recovering though up to 13 already. May touch freezing on Tue and looks bone dry till clipper potential next Fri/Sat.

Interesting thing is, the model that does show a storm around that time, the GFS, has more cold air coming on the back side of that storm, possibly colder than the current cold air.

The "warmer" models don't have a storm- but even the "warm" models are still showing below normal temperatures in the east, just not as cold.

Wind didn’t really die out enough overnight. Had a couple of hours with no wind, otherwise had 2-3mph it seems.

The problem with the cold is that you need wind straight from the North to get New York City to zero or below. Radiation cooling doesn’t do it and any wind that has just even the slightest Westerly component won’t do it. Is the street north or even north northeast.

Pedro would laugh at this post

GFS still very close with the fourth. If you would be happy with just an inch or two, I would keep an eye on that, especially southern posters.
