Next week temps seem to moderate to just below normal. After this weekend I believe we are Done with any cold that requires extreme cold watch/warnings. I will happily take 20s at night and 30s during the day with a few shots of snow. Single digit to below zero cold gets old fast after a few days. My oil bill says the same

After the first week of February, this becomes very difficult to do. The extreme cold watch/warning used to be the wind chill watch/warning, and it was many years ago since that was issued for the NYC metro area. It is sort of like having an excessive heat watch/warning in late August, very difficult to do.

The clipper Friday night into Saturday is a sneaky 1-3” for LI especially eastern sections. This seems to not be getting much attention on this forum because it’s most likely going to be eastern Nassau/western Suffolk on east. I’m in central Suffolk and like where I’m at for this event to give me a fresh 1-2” which would put me just at or above 30” for the season. Going forward we have a couple of events to watch next week but for now I’m focused on Friday night into Saturday and the extreme cold Saturday night and Sunday.

Currently sitting at 10.5 degrees. I’ll easily drop into single digits tonight.

The 3 week period Jan 15 2026-Feb 4th 2026 has been one of the coldest such periods in many areas east of the Mississippi including the third coldest on record in Detroit Michigan and the third coldest in Pittsburgh(coldest since 1977 there)
