I think it's more of a prescriber issue than a drug issue. Nobody is ever told about the possible side effects or the long term dependence that can lead to withdrawal symptoms if they taper off which is difficult to determine relapse or pure discontinuation. There are people who do need them and another group of people who are on them but probably do not need them because they are over-prescribed. It should be considered as an option only when everything else fails, for example after exercise, vitamin panels, and even therapy have been tried. I researched all of this before I willingly went on one for my nearly severe OCD and anxiety attacks when my nervous system seemed to short circuit itself two years ago even after I tried holistic options. I partially responded to it with zero side effects and recently added NAC, magnesium, and vitamin D, which helped reduce my symptoms even more
