I don't know how much of it is to blame on the schools. Kids go to school, the teacher teaches. But kids don't want to learn because it's "boring".

Learning is a voluntary process.

Yeah you need discipline. You can't let students do whatever they want. But they can be "well behaved" and be sleeping or just not paying attention.

Paying attention is the part that's impossible to "control".

Even if the kids are awake and behaving, they can just stare into space and at that point, there's really not much you can do.

my daughter is a high school teacher in Coney Island Brooklyn...she talks about students roaming the halls and not going to class...many of these kids have no future...
