Daily climo reports for NYC & EWR were both 90 before 5pm as well. NYC has to get their 90 degree days in before the leaves are out haha.

There will be discussions if there should be school given the maximum temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday.

Early dismissals are possible in districts without air conditioning.

For where? NYC didn't close schools even when it was 100 degrees before air conditioning.

Yeah, but today, many districts close a lot easier, and can even just do an early closing and get credit for the day.

When you and I went to school, even in NJ, you needed 6" or so of snow to close school.
Today, many districts close for 2 or 3".

There was plenty of heat in May and June in the 1970s and 1980s, but there was no air-conditioning in school. We just had to deal with it and sweat.

Air-conditioning or lack of is the least of their problems though because of 90% of the school kids cannot pass their grade level tests. They cannot read or write or comprehend a paragraph. They should be more worried about that.

Stupid NYC wouldn't even close for 6 inches I wish lol

It would have to be like 10 or more and also falling during the day.

I had to go to school in July 1961 because of all the snow days we had that year...then in September 61 NYC had eight days in the 90's and I was in school during that heat...today they don't care about the kids...see the scamdemic...

We start our warmup today peaking with temperatures not far from 90 by Wednesday. A cold front crosses the area later Wednesday with rain chances increasing and we trend back to near normal temperatures by Thursday and below normal temperatures for the start of Memorial Day Weekend.

Yeah I know, because NYC just thought you could jump right on the subway.

Yea you didn't know there is a subway below every block from end to end of the city limits!

That always pisses me off, how city leaders made/make decisions based on how stupid Manhattan looks like, ignoring that large swaths of the city are nothing like that urban hellscape and they don't have subways either.

Of course, that was basically my point!

Staten island doesn't have a subway...also many teachers like my daughter work in Brooklyn and have to drive to work...

Exactly.

Staten Island pays all the city taxes and receives almost none of the city services.

Wouldn't have happened in NJ. Apparently, in NJ, the teacher's contract is very strict and expires June 30.

So they'll cut out Easter break before going in July.

I checked the days I would have been in school and only Sept 11-12th were in the 90's...July was in the 80's with cool nights...the last week of school on June 24th-28th, 1963 were all in the 90's and schools were open...
