This current group of younger people does not believe what happened with Iran because they never saw the American hostages being parade every single day on TV. They never saw them Marine Corps barracks that were bombed by the truck bomb and the coffins in the hanger at President Reagan had to go to every family and console them. They never experienced how close we were to nuclear war after the Korean airline jet was shut down by a missile in 1983.

People who live through that say that they really believe we were going to have a nuclear war and civilization was going to end. Regardless of what people think about that fact is that many people believe that and it was real at that time and I never dispute it and I never argue with them.

My father told me lots of stories about the cold war, but he also told me he never belived a "real war" between Russia and US would happen, because both sides knew there was too much to lose, even if you won the war.
